Nasal and Paranasal Tumors
Nasal and paranasal tumors develop in the nasal cavity or the surrounding air-filled sinuses. They can be non-cancerous or cancerous, and because of their location, some can extend toward the base of the skull.
Signs & Symptoms
Symptoms can include nasal congestion or blockage on one side, nosebleeds, reduced sense of smell, facial pain or pressure, or vision changes if the tumor grows toward the eye or skull base.
Causes & Risk Factors
Certain occupational exposures, such as wood dust, and tobacco use are known risk factors for some types; many cases have no identifiable cause.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis typically involves nasal endoscopy, imaging (CT or MRI), and a biopsy.
Treatment Options
Treatment is coordinated with ENT specialists and may include surgery, radiation, or a combination, depending on the tumor type and how far it extends.
