Radiology at Hurley Medical Center
Offering the most advanced, most innovative radiologic services available
The Radiology Department at Hurley Medical Center offers some of the most advanced diagnostic imaging techniques and interventional radiologic procedures available in Michigan and across the country. Each year, we perform more than 125,000 procedures, of which approximately 3,500 are interventional procedures.
We are committed to providing the highest levels of diagnostic and treatment services to our patients. Our team of board certified radiologists—including interventional radiologists, neuroradiologists and pediatric radiologists—works closely with physicians and staff throughout Hurley Medical Center to provide the most effective diagnoses and treatments possible.
Hurley has the only two pediatric radiologists in the area, part of our commitment to our community's children
In addition to having some of the most experienced neuroradiologists in the country, we are also home to the only two certified pediatric radiologists in the area. We have made a long-term commitment to offering the finest pediatric radiological services possible, from implementing advanced diagnostic techniques to providing child-focused services that acknowledge and serve the unique needs of our younger patients.
Many of our physicians serve as faculty for the Hurley School of Radiologic Technology, which has educated more radiographers than any other hospital-based program in the Flint area and is the only school of radiologic technology in Genesee County. Hurley Medical Center also serves as a training site for the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Diagnostic Radiology Residency Training Program.
Interventional Radiology: highly specialized minimally invasive procedures instead of surgery
A rapidly growing sub-specialty of radiology, interventional radiology enables physicians to perform a number of highly effective, minimally invasive treatment procedures as alternatives to traditional surgery. Examples include biopsies, removal of kidney stones, dissolving blood clots, and more complex procedures such as uterine artery embolization (UAE) and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD).
The Hurley Radiology Department is proud to have on staff one of only 300 interventional neuroradiologists in the entire world. In addition to inventing leading-edge treatments for aneurysm, Hurley's interventional radiologists perform a variety of neurointerventional procedures, including carotid artery stenting, kyphoplasty, nucleoplasty, lumbar and cervical disc surgery with vertebroplasty, and injections for sacroiliac joint dysfunction.
State-of-the-art diagnostic imaging equipment
Hurley provides the full spectrum of diagnostic radiology services, including general thoracic, abdominal and musculoskeletal radiology, ultrasound, and a fully accredited mammography service. Hurley Medical Center was the first hospital in Genesee County to acquire and implement a 64-slice Siemens CT scanner, and we have recently installed the first Optima MR450w magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system from GE Healthcare at a Genesee County hospital.
These new technologies further improve our diagnostic capabilities and provide a more comfortable experience for our patients. Also, now patients and their families do not need to travel to another facility to benefit from these advanced imaging systems.
