While microsurgery refers generally to any surgery that requires an operating microscope, the applications are some of the most advanced and effective treatments for many patients, including cancer and trauma patients. Microsurgery options available at Hurley include:

  • Oncological and Lymphatic Reconstructive Surgery
  • Limb Salvage and Amputation
  • Complex Hand Surgery
  • Cosmetic Surgery and Body Contouring

Oncological And Lymphatic Reconstructive Surgery

Microsurgery is a cutting-edge technique that gives breast cancer survivors the power to choose the direction of their recovery. Autologous breast reconstruction using the deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap technique is a microsurgical procedure that uses your own tissue - skin, fat, and even muscle - from somewhere else on your body, like your thigh or stomach, to form a breast shape.

We are also now able to offer lymph node transfer procedures treatment for lymphedema. These minimally invasive surgeries reroute lymphatic vessels to reduce swelling and restore some function to the affected limbs, with a short recovery time.

Limb Salvage And Amputation

State of the art peripheral nerve surgery can provide relief for amputees by transferring nerves to help reduce phantom limb pain after amputation. Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR), another advanced microsurgical technique, reassigns nerves that control arm and hand function. This allows trauma patients and amputees to retain a level of function in affected limbs that was not possible before.

Complex Hand Surgery

Our hands are both integral to our lives, and vulnerable. Microsurgery greatly improves the treatment and outlook for common issues, including carpal tunnel, joint problems, fractures, and infections. Complex hand surgery also offers solutions for nerve issues in the lower and upper extremities.

Cosmetic Surgery & Body Contouring

We can also offer a number of cosmetic treatments, including the following:

  • Delayed burn reconstruction, releasing contractures, and transplant microsurgery for burn patients
  • Complex facial reconstruction, including Lefort surgery
  • Body contouring for post weight loss patients, and other related procedures including breast lift and Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
