Hurley Medical Center Named one of the Best Smart Hospitals in the World by Newsweek Magazine
In partnership with the global data research company Statista Inc., Newsweek created the World’s Best Smart Hospital 2021 rankings based on worldwide recommendations from hospital managers and medical professionals, analyzing more than 13,000 votes in a survey on smart hospitals
Hurley Medical Center is ranked #1 in Michigan, #40 in the United States and #111 in the World.
It has always been our goal to best utilize available technologies to make patient care the best in the region. In 2018 we were one of the first health systems in Michigan to be validated as HIMSS Stage 7 – maximizing electronic medical records to provide care that is safe, efficient and high quality. Hurley has been able to share 3.5 million patient records with 2000 hospitals spanning 50 states.
Our growing technology allows doctors in the NICU to predict symptoms in babies before they experience them, and with innovative bar codes and high-tech IV pumps, Hurley improves safety by making sure patients get the correct medications and doses. We utilize AI (artificial intelligence) to predict clinical change in the patient care course and are piloting a program that uses a stream of your EKG tracing, analyzes changes in the waveforms, and predicts which patients may deteriorate. We are involved in the development and piloting of other patient deterioration type predictive tools as well. We continue to invest in robotics allowing surgeons to offer less invasive procedures that speed up recovery.
There is no doubt that the impact of technology on patient care will only get better. That’s the reason we will continue to research, invest and grow allowing Hurley to stand strong as the #1 smart hospital in Michigan.
