At Hurley Medical Center, our goal is for you to be healthy, which includes being at a healthy weight.
Our experienced staff within the medical center and at all of our clinics – Ob/Gyn Clinic, Hurley Children’s Clinic, and Geriatrics – are specially trained to help you lose weight. They can also guide you to Hurley’s many weight loss-related programs.
Nutrition Services
Weight loss and nutrition counseling go hand in hand. Hurley’s Nutrition Services has twelve full-time registered dietitians on staff to counsel and educate both inpatients and outpatients about healthy eating and cooking habits and how to lose weight.
Hurley Health and Fitness Center
The area’s only medically-based health and fitness facility, Hurley Health and Fitness Center offers advanced exercise technology, an experienced team of fitness professionals, and most importantly, access to specialists from Hurley’s full range of medical practices, including cardiology, orthopedics, and rehabilitation sciences.
To help you get fit and lose weight, over 60 group exercise classes a week are available, as well as one-on-one sessions with a personal trainer. The Olympic-size pool is also an excellent way to tone and strengthen your body as well as lose weight.
We also provide the following medically-based exercise programs:
- Diabetes Education & Exercise Program (DEEP)
- Bariatric Education & Exercise Program (BEEP)
- Water Exercise for Arthritis (certified through the Arthritis Foundation)
- Pulmonary Rehab Phase II and III
- Cardiac Rehab Phase III
- SportsCare (physical therapy)
Value Added Services (FREE with membership):
- Over 60 group exercise classes per week (Zumba, yoga, spinning, aquatics, aerobics)
- Child Care (6 months-10 years)
- Family Day (Sundays 2-5pm)
- 2 Personal Training sessions upon joining
- Free locker/towel service
Hurley’s Diabetes Education Programs
Being overweight often brings about diabetes, a serious disease that is especially common in Genesee County. To help patients manage their diabetes, the Hurley Diabetes Center offers diabetes education for adults with diabetes or pre-diabetes. Hurley Medical Center also offers diabetes education classes for children, and high-risk pregnant women. In fact, Hurley Medical Center is the only hospitalin the region offering diabetes education encompassing these three groups.
Hurley Center for Health Outcomes
The mission of the Hurley Center for Health Outcomes is to improve the quality of life, health and health status of the communities served by Hurley Medical Center.
