Newborn Care
The following describes methods for treating newborn babies. For specific information regarding your health and treatment options, please contact your Hurley physician or medical professional.
We provide our youngest patients with the region’s very best clinical care, whether they are born healthy or with serious complications.
When babies are born at Hurley with no obvious health problems, they are cared for right in the mother’s hospital room or in Hurley’s Newborn Nursery. After discharge from the hospital, they can receive follow-up well-baby care from the extensive staff of pediatric specialists at Hurley Children’s Clinic, conveniently located across the street from Hurley Medical Center.
Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
If a baby is born prematurely or critically ill, either at Hurley Medical Center or in the surrounding 3-county area, he/she will be immediately transferred to Hurley’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the only Level III NICU in the region. Being designated a Level III NICU facility means that our entire NICU staff—neonatologists (specialists in sick or premature newborns), perinatologists (specialists in high-risk pregnancies), NICU nurses, nurse practitioners, and respiratory therapy nurse specialists—have the state-of-the-art knowledge and technology needed to care for critically ill and premature newborns.
Hurley Children’s Clinic at Mott's Children's Health Center
For Genesee County and the surrounding area, Hurley Medical Center and nearby Hurley Children’s Clinic are recognized as the undisputed leaders in caring for children and babies. Only at Hurley Children’s Clinic can you and your child find this many specialists and specialty clinics under one roof, conveniently located across the street from Hurley Medical Center. Treating 11,000 children (22,000 visits) every year from birth to age 18, including premature and high-risk babies, Hurley Children’s Clinic is the best place to go when your child is sick or needs the expertise of a Hurley specialist.
