Lactation Consultant

When it comes to breastfeeding your new baby, we're with you every step of the way

For many women, one of the joys of being a mother is breastfeeding a new baby. At Hurley Medical Center, we want to help you achieve that joy. One way we do that is by providing lactation consultants.

Hurley Lactation Consultants are registered nurses who are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultants Examiners. They are available to provide support and information about breastfeeding to any patient (inpatient or outpatient) who asks for their services, including:

• Prenatal education
• Hospital visits upon referral
• Post-discharge phone support

A trusted source of information and help

While breastfeeding is typically the best way to provide optimum nutrition for your baby, breastfeeding sometimes can take time to develop. If you are currently breastfeeding, you may have questions or concerns in the first few weeks. You may wonder if your baby is getting enough milk, or have questions about breastfeeding once you go back to work. Our Lactation Consultants are prepared to help you breastfeed, and to answer any questions you may have.

In Hurley’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), our Lactation Consultants assist moms with the challenges of breastfeeding a very sick or premature infant.
