Moms to Be
You are going to have a baby. Congratulations!
At Hurley Medical Center, we are here for you every step of the way to make sure your pregnancy and delivery are safe, healthy and enjoyable. Almost 3,000 babies are born at Hurley every year, and our entire team of specialists will help make the birth of your baby a pleasant, safe experience for you, your family members and your newborn.
Hurley is the area’s leader in caring for expectant mothers and their unborn babies
Our obstetricians and Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists will help make sure you and your baby are as healthy as possible throughout your pregnancy. Most babies are born with no complications but in case there is a problem, we are ready with the region’s only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Pregnancy
Our OB/GYN Clinic offers complete obstetric and prenatal care for women of all ages, including pregnant adolescents, regardless of ability to pay. Our highly-trained obstetricians are specially trained in all aspects of prenatal care, testing and diagnostics. To accommodate your busy schedule, we offer services throughout the area, close to your home or work, and appointment times that are convenient for you.
Preparation
To help you prepare for childbirth and how to care for your new baby, our Parent Education Department offers several Prenatal Education classes.
Delivery
When it comes time for you to deliver, Hurley’s Labor and Delivery Unit is equipped with nine large Labor & Delivery rooms, able to accommodate one or two support people during delivery. If there no complications, you will recover from labor in this room and your newborn will be able to stay with you. Once you have recovered, you will be transferred to Hurley’s Postpartum Unit on the 1st floor. Your baby will go with you, receiving well-baby care right at your bedside. You will stay in the Postpartum Unit and then be discharged from the hospital to home upon your physician’s approval.
Diabetes management during your pregnancy
In Hurley’s OB/GYN Clinic, all patients at their initial obstetrical visit are screened for diabetes. If they show signs of diabetes or pre-diabetes, they are referred to one of our three registered diabetic nurse educators who are specifically dedicated to helping women manage their diabetes while pregnant. Our nurse educators will then put these patients in contact with Hurley’s Diabetes During Pregnancy education classes which arethe best in the area. Pregnant diabetic patients are also referred to our registered obstetrical dietician who will provide them with nutrition care specific to a diabetic pregnancy.
