Midwives

Our Certified Nurse-Midwifery team are here to help you deliver a healthy baby

Here at Hurley Medical Center, we have a dedicated Certified Nurse-Midwifery team that works in collaboration with our obstetrical staff. Our Certified Nurse-Midwives provide prenatal care in our OB clinic, assist in resident education, and coordinate the care in our OB triage. When it is time for you to deliver your baby, our Certified Nurse-Midwives will greet you in triage, perform an exam, contact your physician and continue to monitor the well-being of you and your baby.

Midwife: "with woman"

The word midwife means “with woman.” With this philosophy, Certified Nurse-Midwives empower women to become partners in their own health care. Certified Nurse-Midwives are highly trained professionals who work collaboratively with physicians, and they view pregnancy and birth as natural life events and only utilize intervention when necessary.

Highly trained professionals

Certified Nurse-Midwives are Master’s-prepared Registered Nurses who have completed a specialized, graduate level educational program accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. This certifying body is the oldest and largest organization for the midwifery profession. In addition, Certified Nurse-Midwives must also pass a rigorous national certification exam and are licensed in all 50 states.

Midwives provide many other services too

Women typically seek Certified Nurse-Midwives for care during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Certified Nurse-Midwives can also provide newborn care, well-woman care, gynecologic exams, and contraceptive counseling. They practice in hospitals, birth centers, and in office settings throughout United States. Many women report that this caring, compassionate support is one of the most important reasons they choose a midwife for their comprehensive well-woman and delivery care.
