Microdiscectomy

What is microdiscectomy?

Microdiscectomy may be recommended by your Hurley orthopedic surgeon in order to repair herniated disks . In this procedure, your surgeon
will use special tools to remove the section of a herniated disc that may be protruding into the spinal canal and pressing on a nerve, causing pain. The advantage of microdiscectomy over traditional discectomy is that a smaller incision is required, which promotes faster healing and recovery.

When is microdiscectomy performed?

Microdiscectomy is often used once non-surgical treatment options have proven ineffective. The goal of microdiscectomy is to reduce pain and increase function and mobility.
