Center for Joint Replacement: Care at Every Step
Continuous care every step of the way
The Center for Joint Replacement at Hurley Medical Center provides the entire continuum of care for joint replacements, from preoperative evaluation and education, to joint replacement surgery and postoperative rehabilitation. In our unique facility, patients come together in an environment that promotes wellness and maximizes patient recovery with one-on-one care tailored to each individual’s needs.
Before your surgery:
We will work with you to:
- Assess your range of motion and ability
- Give you a home exercise program (pre-habilitation)
- Help you choose a personal coach
- Give you a punch card for six (6) FREE pre-surgery aquatic (water) arthritis classes at the Hurley Health and Fitness Center
- Help you schedule post-surgery out-patient physical therapy
You will also be told what to expect at the hospital during your stay and how you and your family should care for you after the surgery. Discharge plans and home safety guidelines are also established prior to surgery.
On the day of your surgery:
On the day of their surgery, patients check in at the Center for Joint Replacement. The Center is located in a spacious new wing at Hurley Medical Center that is devoted solely to the needs of those receiving joint replacement. Each patient is assigned a dedicated team that includes a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and an orthopedic nurse practitioner, as well as nurses, therapists and a hand-selected staff.
In the Center’s state-of-the-art operating suite, the patient’s surgery is carried out by highly skilled team of surgeons and nurses specializing in joint replacements.
After your surgery:
The surgeons and staff of The Center for Joint Replacement are with you every step of the way. We know that post-operative recovery varies for each person. Under most circumstances, however, patients are encouraged to use their “new” joint shortly after the operation.
Family involvement and support
The Center for Joint Replacement places great emphasis on patient- and family-centered involvement and group support for patients. During your stay, which typically lasts three to four days, your family can come together to share this experience.
