Ear, Nose & Throat (Otolaryngology)

The most experienced specialists in the area

The ear, nose and throat (ENT, or otolaryngology) specialists of Hurley Medical Center are highly experienced in both the medical and surgical aspects of this complex area of human anatomy. Offering individualized, comprehensive care for each patient, Hurley is your best resource for non-invasive treatment of ear, nose, throat, head and neck conditions, as well as for surgical interventions in these areas — including plastic surgery and treatment of trauma.

In addition to having surgical privileges at Hurley Medical Center, our ENT physicians have private practices in offices throughout Genesee County, a distinct advantage for patients who live far away, have a hard time getting to Hurley, have limited time for appointments, or who need to see a physician quickly.

Our physicians have extensive experience working with children; in fact, more than 50 percent of our patients are under the age of 18. As a result, we are extremely sensitive to their concerns and focus on creating a child-friendly environment and helping reduce their pain, working closely with our pediatric department to provide child- and family-oriented care.

Highly advanced procedures for faster healing

In the past, ENT treatments had a reputation for being very uncomfortable and requiring extended recovery times. Too many patients delayed treatment, fearing that the cure was worse than the sickness. However, technology in this area has improved a great deal in the last 20 years.

Our physicians use the latest in minimally-invasive tools, medications and techniques — such as “balloon sinuplasty” — which cause much less pain initially and allow for faster healing. Likewise, when diagnosed early and accurately, oral, head and neck conditions can be treated quite successfully, with relatively little discomfort and shortened recovery times.

Certain medical conditions may cause hearing problems. We work with audiologists in our community-based offices and at Hurley Medical Center to conduct hearing evaluations and to provide rehabilitative therapy as necessary.

We perform all types of ear, nose, throat, head and neck surgery, including the following:

  • Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for recurrent infection and obstructive breathing
  • Voice-box (larynx) disorders, including removal of benign and cancerous conditions
  • Laryngeal reflux evaluation and therapy
  • Surgery for diseases of the sinuses
  • Surgery for benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck
  • Plastic and reconstructive surgery
  • Surgery for sleep apnea in patients who fail continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy
