High-risk pregnancies

If you are pregnant and have diabetes, you are considered to be a high-risk patient and you will need very special medical care during your pregnancy. Hurley’s Diabetes During Pregnancy Education Program teaches you about diabetes and how to manage it so your baby has a better chance of being born healthy. You may also be referred to Hurley’s Maternal Fetal Medicine Department which will closely monitor your pregnancy and give you and your unborn baby very special obstetrical care.

You and your doctors: working as a team

You, your doctor, your nurse, and your dietician all work together to help you have a healthy baby. We call this Patient and Family-Centered Care and it allows you and your family to have a voice in your own health care decisions and treatment.

Help with a doctor or insurance

Your doctor needs to order diabetes education. If you don’t have a doctor, we can help you find one. Many insurance companies will cover diabetes education. If you do not have insurance, or if your insurance will not cover diabetes education, Hurley Medical Center will help you get the care and education you need.
