Hurley has Heart - Barbara's Story

Barbara Branch, BSN, RN, has a longstanding relationship with Hurley. The Burton woman began her Nursing career at Hurley Medical Center as an Assistant Supervisor in 1955 and worked in Labor and Delivery until 1961. She also delivered her three children at Hurley.

Today, Branch is an ordained minister and volunteer chaplain at Hurley, and a member of our Patient and Family Centered Care Council Committee.

So, when Branch needed to visit an ER as a patient, she turned to Hurley. Using state-of-the-art technology, the ER staff diagnosed Branch with cardiomyopathy. She was admitted and observed for further testing and treatment for several days in the Cardiac Care Unit.

“The clinical staff and the care I received was outstanding," recalls Branch. "The discharge instructions were thorough and clearly explained to my family member as well as myself. I know I made the right choice going to Hurley, and now I have a Hurley Cardiologist as well.

"Today, I am beating the odds because of Hurley. They have heart, and so much more.”
