Anesthesiology
The following describes the medical field of anesthesiology. For specific information regarding your health and treatment options, please contact your Hurley physician or medical professional.
Anesthesiology is a drug-induced and reversible state of unconsciousness, loss of responsiveness, loss of skeletal musclereflexes, and/or memory. This allows patients to undergo surgery and other medical procedures without the pain or anxiety they would otherwise experience.
Highly skilled specialists delivering the highest level of anesthetic care for
surgery patients
The anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA) at Hurley Medical Center offer outstanding anesthetic care for our surgical patients. Before, during and immediately following a surgical procedure, they administer anesthesia, monitor the patient for reactions and complications, and try to make the patient comfortable by managing his/her pain.
Before the procedure, a Hurley anesthesiologist and/or CRNA meet with the patient to evaluate the patient’s condition and review his/her medical history. They also explain the surgical process so the patient knows what to expect. During the procedure, the anesthesiologist and CRNA carefully monitor the patient’s vital signs and comfort and make any needed adjustments in the anesthesia. Following the procedure, the anesthesiologist and CRNA continue to monitor the patient’s vital signs and may be involved in managing the patient’s pain.
