Hurley is accredited by The Joint Commission, an independent organization which reviews, accredits and certifies more than 18,000 healthcare organizations in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.

A member of national quality and patient safety initiatives 

Hurley Medical Center participates in many national quality and patient safety initiatives, including but not limited to: Core Measures in Acute Myocardial Infarction, Pneumonia, Heart Failure, National Patient Safety Goals, National Healthcare Safety Network, a Stand Up for Patient Safety member of the National Patient Safety Foundation Collaborative, and the Michigan Health and Hospital Keystone Center for Patient Safety and Quality.

Hurley also participates in the National Patient Safety Initiative, a new federal program which will focus on decreasing hospital-acquired conditions and preventable hospital readmissions. It will also promote widespread adoption of proven hospital safety strategies which Hurley already follows, such as core measures, standardized wrist bands, and the National Patient Safety Goals.
