Transforming Our Community's Health

Through our many successful community programs and events, we help the people in our community live healthier lives.

Community Health

Genesee County is one of the most unhealthy areas in Michigan.

At Hurley Medical Center, we find this completely unacceptable and we have made it our mission to change it. Think Healthy, Think Hurley has become critical to our role in our community. While Hurley is well-known as the best place to go when you are sick or seriously injured, one of our major goals is to keep people out of the hospital. As well as addressing your illnesses or injuries, we are here to help you get healthy, stay healthy, and live a healthy life style.

To do this successfully, we must work together with our patients and their families, with our schools and community organizations, and with our churches and businesses to improve our community’s health. This is the key to our community’s renewed focus on healthy living.

Hurley Center for Health Outcomes: Improving our community’s health

The Hurley Center for Health Outcomes is making great strides in improving our community’s health by partnering with local groups, foundations, churches and schools to educate people about how to prevent diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. Our disease-prevention specialists show people how to eat healthier diets and become more physically active. They offer healthy cooking demonstrations, family weight loss programs, and the PATH program (Personal Action Toward Health), which helps prevent chronic disease management. They organize health fairs, manage a local farmer’s market, and oversee a community garden across the street from the medical center. For a complete list of the many ways the Hurley Center for Health Outcomes improves the quality of life, health and health status of the communities served by Hurley Medical Center, click here.
