Local Mom Receives Safe Kids Car Seat From HealthPlus
Nov. 28-Shelby Rupp’s pregnancy didn’t go exactly as planned. The local mom delivered a baby at Hurley Medical Center weighing 1 pound 13 ounces, who had to spend two months in Hurley’s NICU.
Soon Shelby realized she had a big, or actually, small problem. The car seat she bought before her daughter Aubriana was born was too big. Since she couldn’t return it, Safe Kids offered our help.
HealthPlus, the Safe Kids sponsor of Hurley's Injury Prevention Program car seat checks, donated funds to purchase a special car seat that would fit Shelby’s daughter at discharge. Penny Perez, a Car Seat technician, was with the family at discharge to show them how to install and use the car seat correctly. Today, Aubriana is doing great and weighs 8 pounds!
