Hurley Employee Keeps a Healthy Promise, Loses 30 Pounds
Nov. 28-When Dr. Kay Taylor, Director of Hurley’s Research Center, stepped on the scale for her initial weigh-in for the 2011 Employee Wellness 3-Ton Weight Loss Challenge, she said she wasn’t happy at all with the number. “I knew I had to do something so I really got involved in the program,” said Dr. Taylor. She lost a total of 9 pounds during the challenge, but that was only the beginning. “I made a promise to myself that I was going to keep exercising and continue to watch what I ate.”
Since that time, Kay has lost a total of 30 pounds and looks and feels great. “I have so much more energy, I sleep better and I’m just an overall healthier person,” she said. Kay’s success inspired her husband to get involved in exercising and better nutrition and he has also lost 14 pounds!
According to Taylor, “The miracle weight loss programs just don’t exist. You have to commit to exercising and eating healthier to see the results.” Kay said the recent Employee Wellness “Maintain Don’t Gain Holiday Weight Loss Challenge” was just what she needed for her weight maintenance. “I LOVE cakes and pies so the holidays are definitely a weak point for me,” said Taylor. “But now that I have been exercising, I find that I can eat more and have my treats once in a while without putting the weight back on. It’s all about sticking with the promise you make to yourself.”
When asked what advice she would give to someone else looking to make a lifestyle change, Taylor said, “Make a plan that will work for you. Tracking what you eat is extremely helpful to me in understanding just how much I was overeating.”
