Hurley Children’s Hospital Wins $25,000 National Speedway “Battle of the Brave” Contest
FLINT, Michigan − Pediatric patients at Hurley Children’s Hospital will soon get the chance to enjoy two renovated playrooms, thanks to a contest supported by Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals and Speedway.
The two-week contest awarded $25,000 to one CMN hospital nationwide that garnered the most public votes. Hurley Medical Center finished in first place with 14,465 votes on May 31, 2013.
“Winning this contest is a positive for Hurley Children’s Hospital in so many ways,” said Brian Nolan, MD, Clinical Director of Pediatrics at Hurley Children’s Hospital. “Providing special activities − like Xbox and video games, toys and books are extremely helpful in giving these patients distractions from the many tests and procedures they're going through.”
“I am thrilled to be part of this exciting win for Hurley Children’s Hospital and its pediatric patients,” said Linda Tracy-Stephens, CMN Hospitals Director at Hurley Children’s Hospital. “The support we received from patients, families, physicians, and staff was amazing. Everyone who voted is helping support the vital services Hurley offers its youngest patients as the region's only Children's Hospital.”
Hurley Medical Center extends its sincere appreciation to the thousands of local residents, Hurley employees, physicians, friends and family from around the world who cast their votes of support.
“A heartfelt thank you to the Hurley family, the entire community and beyond for all of your support,” said Melany Gavulic, RN, MBA, Hurley President and Chief Executive Officer. “For Hurley to compete against some of the nation’s largest children’s hospitals and win is a testament to the unending commitment and belief that all of you have in the work that the Hurley team does day in and day out. We are especially grateful for Archer and his willingness to let his story be told of the tragedy he endured and the excellent care he received at Hurley. Thank you again to all that made this win possible!”
