"Hurley Baby" Contest: Week 2 Showcase Story
April 14-Lulu Brezzel's son was born weighing just three pounds but thanks to Hurley Medical Center’s Level III NICU and his fighting spirit, is doing well.
In Lulu Brezzell's words:
"Our journey with Hurley began when I was 21 weeks pregnant. A bleed was discovered in my placenta two weeks earlier and my baby's growth was measuring two weeks behind. At 24 weeks, the High Risk doctor told us that we could lose our baby any day. I was admitted to Hurley Medical Center to have more tests. At 25 weeks,we had a scare. The baby's heart rate kept dropping and I was prepped for a C-section. Thankfully one of the obstetricians did an ultrasound and we saw the baby's cord getting squeezed, which was causing his heart rate to drop.
"We spent the next 7 weeks in and out of Hurley, getting daily tests and ultrasounds. At 32 weeks, the OB decided we were lucky to have made it as far as we did. I received two more steroid shots for my little man's lungs and on March 9th, 2011, I was wheeled down to the OR. I don’t remember much other than my OB saying, 'Oh, this baby has a big head!'
"About a minute later we heard the most amazing scream in the world! My little man was born, screaming, fighting and kicking. The OB then told us that it was a miracle we made it as far as we did and ended up with a living baby. We spent the next two and a half weeks in Hurley's Level III NICU. Our son was one of the smallest babies there, weighing just 3 lbs. The nurses and doctors were amazed at how strong he was. He was our little fighter. After 18 long, hard, stressful days, we brought our little man home. He has been re-admitted 9 times since we have been in the NICU and still has lots of issues, but Hurley has become a second home to us. We don’t know if we would even have our little miracle without Hurley."

Every Friday in April we will select TWO WINNERS. Each weekly winner will receive a $50.00 Visa Gift Card!
THE FIRST WINNER-CHOSEN AT RANDOM:
Each Friday in April we will draw a winner at random from all entries received that week. This winner will receive a $50 Visa Gift Card.
THE SECOND WINNER-BEST STORY OF THE WEEK:
Each Friday in April we will also draw a 2nd winner – the best story of the week. This winner is determined by the largest number of "LIKES" a story gets during the week it was posted. The winning story will be posted as a "Showcase Story" on the Hurley Medical Center website and the winner will receive a $50 Visa Gift Card. On April 30, 2012, we will hold a random drawing of the four "Showcase Story" winners for the Grand Prize: a $250 Visa Gift Card!
