The 1st winner of Week 3's Showcase Story, in the words of Aaron Nowakowski, Jr:

The Nowakowski triplets being compassionately cared in the Hurley NICU.

"Our three boys were born at Hurley Medical Center on February 20, 2012. My wife ended up spending 9+ weeks in the hospital on bed rest. The boys were born at 33 weeks and 2 days. I remember when my wife was first admitted to the hospital, we took a tour of the NICU. It makes you a little nervous, but the doctors and nurses are the best in the area and you know you are in the right place.

"Our triplets endded up spendinga little more than two weeks in the NICU. Each of the boys was hooked up to all the monitors and tubes at some point. That first day seeing them all in the open crib was amazing! On discharge day, two boys got to come home and we had to leave one behind. That was tough because now you are wondering how you juggle two kids and still visit the one left behind.

"The good news is just two days after the first two came home, the last baby was discharged. I thank God every day for the staff and doctors at Hurley that helped my wife get to 33 weeks gestation and got the boys home quickly and healthy. Elijah Lucas (born 4lbs, 11oz), Evan Joseph (born 5lbs, 6ozs), and Ethan Scott (born 5lbs, 9ozs) are now all home and doing very well. The trio is 8 weeks old today and we could not be happier!"
