Hurley Medical Center's new Men’s Health Initiative
As part of Hurley's community focus and in collaboration with a wide range of community organizations, from fraternities and churches to schools and social clubs, we are working on helping men get actively involved in their health. Alarming research reveals a high rate of mortality and morbidity among men, particularly African-American men, and substantial health disparities between men and women. Men are living an average of seven years less than women, and too many men are dying of preventable diseases and unmanaged chronic illnesses, especially between 18-35 years old.
At Hurley, we believe it is time to reverse this trend. Our new Men’s Health Initiative is a core part of our vision of transforming the health of our region. With a public health focus, a collaborative effort with other local organizations, educational and physician led programs, and expanded access to health care, we are taking important steps to challenge and champion men’s health.
