Breastfeeding Support Available Through Hurley Children's Hospital

Beginning Tuesday, September 25, 2012, the expert physicians and lactation consultants at Hurley Children’s Hospital will be available to help support breastfeeding in our new Breastfeeding Support Clinic, located in the Hurley Children’s Clinic at Mott Children’s Health Center, One Tuuri Place, Flint.

We’re here to help. With education and support, most women CAN be successful at breastfeeding. Hurley Children’s Hospital, the region’s leading provider for women and children, will now be offering breastfeeding support on an outpatient basis.

Making the choice to breastfeed is one of the most precious gifts that a mother can give her newborn. Approximately 60 percent of women in our community start out with the intention to breastfeed, but due to various challenges, many give up.

Without support, issues like a poor latch, low milk supply, engorgement, painful breastfeeding or the infant’s poor weight gain can be overwhelming for a new mother. In addition, babies with medical conditions such as prematurity, cleft lip/palate, Down syndrome and other genetic syndromes may not naturally breastfeed as well as other babies.

Please call 810.262.9773 to make an appointment, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you would like to speak to a lactation consultant, please call 810.262.9480 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Most insurances are accepted.
