Hurley’s Diabetes Education Program to help you control your diabetes
Hurley offers diabetes education that teaches people how to control and manage their diabetes. Our Diabetes Education Program is the largest in Genesee County, and our programs are recognized by the American Diabetes Association and certified by the Michigan Department of Community Health as quality self-management diabetes education programs.
Hurley Diabetes Center
With many classes and appointments at many different times, the Hurley Diabetes Center teaches adults how to manage their diabetes themselves so they can be healthier.
We teach you:
- What diabetes is
- What puts you at risk for getting diabetes
- Blood sugar monitoring
- Diabetes medicines, including insulin pump
- How to stay healthy with diabetes
- What to eat
Hurley Health and Fitness Center
The area’s only medically-based health and fitness facility, Hurley Health and Fitness Center offers a Diabetes Education & Exercise Program (DEEP) specifically for people with diabetes.
Help with a doctor or insurance
Your doctor needs to order diabetes education. If you don’t have a doctor, please call (888) 611-4HMC(4462). Many insurance companies will cover diabetes education. If you do not have insurance, or if your insurance will not cover diabetes education, Hurley Medical Center will help you get the care and education you need.
Hurley Center for Health Outcomes
Another way Hurley Medical Center helps people manage their diabetes is through programs and events managed by the Hurley Center for Health Outcomes. Dedicated to improving the quality of life, health and health status of the communities served by Hurley Medical Center, the Hurley Center for Health Outcomes partners with a number of local groups, foundations, schools, and organizations to teach people of all ages how to control and even prevent several chronic diseases, including diabetes.
