Sleep Center for Children

Hurley is one of only four Accredited Sleep Laboratories in the area.

Following an evaluation by your child's primary care physician or any other treating specialists, your child may be referred to the Hurley Sleep Diagnostic Center. Hurley is one of only four Accredited Sleep Laboratories in the area. Depending upon the symptoms and suspected condition, your child may be scheduled for one or two nights of testing at the Sleep Center. In the case of narcolepsy, daytime testing may be recommended.

Our Hurley sleep specialists use highly advanced equipment to evaluate sleep problems

At the sleep laboratory, our qualified sleep technologists use sophisticated equipment to conduct a range of tests that measure sleep patterns, breathing, heart activity and body movements throughout the testing period. Following the testing period, our technologists submit detailed written reports of the studies to our physicians (all of whom are board certified in Sleep Medicine). These highly skilled physicians make a proper diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment. Our registered sleep technicians will then work with your child to make appropriate arrangements, including accessing needed equipment and follow-up treatment.

In addition to testing adults and children in order to diagnose potential sleep problems, we work with physicians to assess treatment results. For example, for patients with sleep apnea, we will conduct observational and electronic testing of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), refer them to an ear, nose and throat (ENT) physician (or otolaryngologist) or to Hurley’s MRI center for further evaluation. We reevaluate patients already on CPAP when symptoms reoccur, or when a patient experiences health and/or weight changes. We also certify commercial drivers as required by the Michigan Department of Transportation.
