The Xbox Game Room Makeover: miracles do happen!
In 2009, when Microsoft® offered to donate an Xbox Game Room Makeover (featuring an Xbox 360 Elite console) to the top three vote-getting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in an online contest, Hurley Medical Center rose to the challenge. Participants could vote online up to 10 times a day and it didn’t cost a penny. In no time at all, the Hurley spirit ignited and the effort went viral! Over six weeks, Hurley employees, their friends and family, and their friends and family voted and voted and voted.
The result? Against all odds – Hurley Medical Center as a small regional hospital, not a giant institution, competing against 169 other Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals – came in 1st place with 2,156,400 votes! This was truly a David vs. Goliath story: Hurley has 42 pediatric beds, while the 2nd place finisher has 190 beds and 3rd place has 250. In addition to the $10,000 Game Room Makeover donated by Microsoft, a $10,000 incentive was given by Dr. Alan Klein, a Hurley Medical Center pediatric dentist.
A place where teenagers can play and forget medical treatments
Now, Hurley pediatric patients (ages 10 and older) have their own special place on the 2nd floor of the hospital where they can forget for awhile the many tests and procedures they have to endure. In this magical room, they can have fun and just be kids. That in itself is a miracle.

All donations to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, part of the Hurley Foundation at Hurley Medical Center, are used to buy specialized equipment, provide valuable services to people, and give toys or cuddly stuffed animals to a sick or anxious child. Every single dollar makes a difference. Through the generosity of countless people throughout mid-Michigan, miracles really do happen.
