Welcome to Hurley Children's Hospital

We are delighted that you are interested in knowing more about Hurley Children's Hospital, part of Hurley Medical Center, a place of health and healing that has played a very special role in Genesee County for over 100 years.

The undisputed leader in children’s health care in mid- and northern Michigan

In November 2011, Hurley Children's Hospital was launched, a pediatric hospital within Hurley Medical Center offering the highest level of children’s medical care, centrally located in Flint but encompassing 15 counties: as far north as Alpena, west to Mt. Pleasant, east to part of the Thumb, and all of Genesee and Shiawassee Counties.

The mission of Hurley Children’s Hospital is to transform the lives of children and their families everywhere in the region. Whether your child is in an accident or struggling with asthma, diabetes or cancer, we have assembled a team of exceptional pediatric specialists, nurses and staff, and have equipped them with today’s most advanced technology. We also offer programs to help keep kids healthy and safe so that they never have to come to the hospital.

The most advanced specialists, treatments and technology

Our leading-edge facility houses the latest technologies and today’s most innovative treatments, eliminating the need for families to travel far from home for specialized services. And Hurley Children’s Hospital is designed around patient- and family-centered care, welcoming the input of patients and their families and including them in treatment decisions.

The region’s only Children's Emergency Department, NICU, PICU and Burn Unit

For years Hurley has been known for providing the highest level of critical care in our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Burn Unit, and newly expanded, state-of-the-art Children's Emergency Department – the only ones in the region.

Since 1990, Hurley has been designated a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® is a system of 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada dedicated to providing the very best care for sick and injured children. Hurley Medical Center was invited to join this group of special hospitals because we provide the best kid-centered care in our region to every child who needs it, regardless of the family's ability to pay. As a Children's Miracle Network Hospital, Hurley Medical Center helps kids with cancer, birth defects, diabetes, asthma, accidents, trauma, and almost any other health issue imaginable.

Hurley Asthma Clinic: the very best asthma care for your child

For children with asthma, Hurley Asthma Clinic is one of the best children’s asthma programs anywhere. With educational programs and our award-winning home-based Asthma Disease Management Program, Hurley Children’s Hospital is having great success helping children control or prevent asthma and stay healthy and in school.

We are leading the fight against childhood diabetes and obesity

Hurley's Pediatric Diabetes Education Program, the only diabetes pediatric education and management program of its kind in Genesee County, helps children with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and pre-diabetes.

Childhood obesity is far too prevalent in Flint and we are committed to changing that. Our Hurley Center for Health Outcomes is committed to helping people control diabetes, lose weight, eat healthier, exercise, and live healthier lifestyles.

Pediatric Oncology and Hematology

As well as being known throughout Michigan for its excellent treatment of pediatric hematology and oncology (cancer) conditions, Hurley Children’s Hospital offers something that other, larger institutions do not: personal care. Hurley’s pediatric hematology/oncology program is a member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), an international organization of clinical and research pediatric oncology specialists. This means that children with cancer receive the same level of treatment at Hurley as at any other COG institution.

Our Hemophilia Treatment Center: comprehensive treatment for bleeding and clotting disorders

One of nine federally- and privately-funded centers in Michigan, our Eastern Michigan Center for Bleeding and Clotting Disorders provides complete medical management and home care services to children with bleeding and clotting disorders such as hemophilia, von Willebrand’s disease, platelet disorders, thrombosis and thrombophilia.

Working to prevent injuries before they happen

Most childhood injuries can be prevented. That’s why our Injury Prevention team members partner with schools, police and fire departments, and local businesses to promote safe habits and ways to keep our community’s kids healthy.

Child Life Services: making medical treatments easier for patients and their families

Our Child Life specialists know that having treatments and procedures, and just being in the hospital, can be very scary for children but through therapeutic play activities, they help make the hospital experience a lot less scary.

When our children need us, we are–and will always be–ready.
