Advance Directives Assistance: An advance directive tells your doctor what kind of care you would like to have if you become unable to make medical decisions (if you are in a coma, for example). If you are admitted to the hospital, the hospital staff will probably talk to you about advance directives. A good advance directive describes the kind of treatment you would want depending on how sick you are. To find out more, please call (810) 257-9220.

Closed Captioned Television:  Closed Captioning allows persons with hearing disabilities to access television programming. Captioning displays the audio portion of programming as text superimposed over the video.

Foreign and Sign Language InterpretersTo help ensure a smooth hospital stay, please let your doctor, your nurse and the admitting staff know in advance about your language or hearing needs. If you need an interpreter while in the hospital, please ask your nurse or doctor.

Medical Social Workers: The Social Work Service is committed to providing patients and families with an opportunity to identify and deal with all aspects relating to the social, emotional and practical impact of an illness. To find out more, please call (810) 257-9300.

Pastoral Care and Spiritual Services: Hurley Medical Center recognizes the spiritual component of healing and wellness. Through its Pastoral Care Department, Hurley Medical Center offers support for the spirit on a day-to-day basis. Directed by a Hurley Chaplain, the department includes community chaplains who will be happy to visit patients and family members during their stay, regardless of religious affiliation. The ministry of listening and prayer is available by patient request. Please tell your nurse, or call (810) 257-9517.

Patient Support Services:  Acting as an advocate on your behalf, support services staff members are available to assist you and your family during your hospital stay. We will help you find the information and services best suited to meet your individual needs. To find out more, please call (810) 257-9220.

Public Safety:  The Department of Public Safety is the in-house security department at Hurley. The staff is professionally trained and offers many services, including car unlocks, jump starts, visitor restrictions and escorts. Most services are available 24 hours a day and can be requested by calling (810) 257-9121.

Valuables/Lost Items: Patients are asked not to bring items of value to the hospital. If you do bring a valuable item, please have it deposited in the safe in the Emergency Department or the Cashier’s Office. We will provide a written receipt for all deposited items. This receipt must be presented when you withdraw them. The hospital does not accept responsibility for any items of value unless they are deposited in the safe. If you lose something, please notify your nurse immediately, and we will make every effort to help find it. Unclaimed articles are turned in to the Public Safety Office and held for 30 days. To inquire about lost articles, or to file a report, call the Public Safety Department at (810) 257-9121.

TDD Phones:  TDD Phones are Telecommunication Devices for the Deaf. These are provided in an effort to accommodate our hearing impaired patients. To find out more, please call (810) 257-9000.

Community Health Information Library: Free information about your diagnosis and illness may be obtained by calling the Hamady Medical Library at (810) 257-9427.

Cafeteria: The cafeteria at Hurley is open to serve the hospital employees and visitors. Patients who have permission to eat in the cafeteria must have authorization from the unit charge nurse in order to purchase food from the cafeteria.

Hours of Operation:

  • 6:30 a.m. to 9: 45 a.m.
  • 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • 4:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.
  • 1:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m.

The Lobby Shop (Gift Shop):The Lobby Shop, staffed by volunteers, is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. On weekends the Lobby Shop is open from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The shop has a large selection of gift items, jewelry, magazines, greeting cards, candy, toiletries, flowers and plants.
